A book that changed my life

SHANTARAM by Gregory David Roberts

This book has no doubt inspired wanderlust within many a reader, and sent multitudes of eager shantaram seeking travellers to the exotic streets of India.

The story of Lin, Australian escaped convict who flees his country to India. All the components of life are unraveled through Lin's experiences of love, hate, money, greed, friendship, trust, drugs, war, family and the value of living. Through Greg's exceptional ability to capture and create emotion while toying with ideas of creation and worth the crazy and exotic slums and palace of India and the people who call it home are created with depth and intensity. The characters are all extremely complex, with a multitude of sides, yet Lin manages to extract love and devotion from almost all of them, inspiring the best parts of even the worst people to emerge.

"It's forgiveness that makes us what we are. Without forgiveness, our species would've annihilated itself in endless retributions. Without forgiveness, there would be no history. Without that hope, there would be no art, for every work of art is in some way an act of forgiveness. Without that dream, there would be no love, for every act of love is in some way a promise to forgive. We live on because we can love, and we love because we can forgive"

This book made me cry, laugh and mourn. I felt like a different person after reading it, ready to make changes that reflected the loving and selfless attitudes  expressed in the book, as well as planting the travel bug stubbornly within my goal driven mind.

Read it, read it, read it!

Borsalino hat test

Theyre old news in the fashion world I know, but every wardrobe needs a fedora. While Fedora's were typically a man's hat, the lines of gender orientated fashion have blurred, so these accessories now occupy the space of unisex wear.

The most noteworthy of these creations are the Borsalino's, which have been knocked off many a times.
Apparently, the secret to checking the authenticity of a Borsalino is to roll the hat into a cylinder and pass it through a ring, if it emerges and springs back to its original from uncreased, youve got yourself a real deal Italian rabbit furred Borsalino.

Boycotting Stylestalker

Too skinny for fashion.
Stylestalker's models have become increasingly slim to the point where I cannot condone buyer their clothes when they are promoting such unattainable figures and negative body images. These models are worse than the industry standard and not only make the clothing look unappealing but also reinforce and already negative ideology of females being rake thin.

Because of this, I, an avid fan of their clothing have decided to boycott the label until they take action and use models who do not have eating disorders. As well as giving my credit card a break from their site I have also written a formal letter of complaint to the creators of the labels and encourage all of you to boycott their clothing also. Eating disorders are a dangerous and scarily increasing problem, especially within the fashion industry, we need to make a change now so that the mistake of our time are not passed on to the next generation, I dont want to see my nieces looking up to waif like models.

If you agree with me please comment below and tell me what you think / what measures can be taken to do something about this problem.

TREND: BEAU COOPS

Person of Inspiration: Sally Mann

Sally Mann has to be one of my favorite photographs, her 'smoking children' photos sparked an international conversation, yet her portrait work of today is somewhat unnoticed yet equally/better than her previous work. Luke and I just got her DVD, What Remains, which is fascinating and brilliant, watching her work, getting to see her world, she has much a story to tell and a breathtaking way of expressing it.
